About the Farm

This coffee comes from family-owned farms in the Nebilyer Valley within Papua New Guinea’s Tambul-Nebilyer District. Most producers cultivate coffee on small plots of just 1–2 hectares, making each delivery the result of careful work from individual farming families.

The coffee is processed at the Kuta Mill, which has been operating for more than 40 years. Located between the Ulga and Kolga tribes, the mill has become more than just a processing site. It serves as a place of common ground for producers from communities that have historically experienced tribal conflict.

The mill owner, Brian Leahy, also provides bonus payments after harvest to farmers who consistently deliver high-quality cherries. This helps reward careful picking, strengthens the relationship between farmers and the mill, and supports continued improvements in quality.

About the Bean

Kuta Mill is a fully washed coffee, meaning the fruit is removed from the seed before drying. After harvesting, ripe cherries are processed at the mill, washed clean, and then patio dried under the sun. This method helps create a cup that is clean and smooth while still preserving the depth and sweetness Papua New Guinea coffees are known for.

This lot is made up of Bourbon and Typica varieties grown at 1,350 meters above sea level. The result is one of our most robust offerings: rich, smooth, and full-bodied, with notes of toffee, red apple, and molasses.

With its heavy body, lower acidity, and deep sweetness, Kuta Mill is a comforting and substantial cup. It is approachable, balanced, and especially well suited for anyone who enjoys coffee with richness, smoothness, and a lingering sweet finish.
