About This Coffee

COMSA Marcala is a classic example of why Honduran coffees have become increasingly sought after in specialty coffee. Sweet milk chocolate and toasted almond create a rich, comforting foundation, while crisp red apple adds just enough brightness to keep the cup lively and balanced. The result is a smooth, approachable coffee with a creamy body and clean finish that shines as both a daily drip coffee and a well-rounded espresso.

Its balanced sweetness and gentle acidity make it an easy coffee to enjoy, whether you're exploring single origins for the first time or simply looking for a dependable everyday favorite.

About the Farm

COMSA (Café Orgánico Marcala S.A.) was founded in 2000 when 62 coffee-producing families in Marcala came together with a shared vision of transitioning from conventional farming to organic agriculture. Since then, the cooperative has grown into one of Honduras' most respected specialty coffee organizations, supporting hundreds of smallholder producers while promoting sustainable farming, education, and community development.

The farms that make up COMSA are cultivated beneath diverse shade trees that help preserve native wildlife, improve soil health, and create ideal growing conditions for high-quality coffee. Many member farms are certified Smithsonian Bird Friendly®, one of the world's highest environmental standards for coffee production, recognizing farms that combine certified organic practices with forest-like shade canopies that provide critical habitat for migratory birds.

COMSA's commitment extends well beyond coffee quality. Fair Trade premiums are reinvested into local schools, agricultural education, healthcare initiatives, and producer training programs, helping strengthen both the environment and the communities that cultivate the coffee. Through a philosophy centered on healthy soils, biodiversity, and continuous learning, COMSA has become an international model for sustainable specialty coffee production.

*While many farms within the COMSA cooperative are certified Smithsonian Bird Friendly®, individual lots may not always carry the certification depending on the specific producers included in a shipment.
