Coffee Cupping Experience

Explore coffee beyond the cup.

Our guided Coffee Cupping Experience is a 90–105 minute tasting and educational session designed for groups of 2–8 people. You'll taste a rotating selection of coffees from our current lineup while learning how professionals evaluate coffee and how everything from variety and harvest to fermentation and processing influences what you taste.

No prior coffee knowledge is necessary.

What You'll Experience

Cupping is the standardized method used throughout the coffee industry to taste, compare, and evaluate coffees. During the experience, we'll walk you through the cupping process from start to finish and teach you how to taste coffee with more intention.

You'll learn about:

  • Professional coffee cupping and the methods used to evaluate aroma, flavor, body, acidity, sweetness, balance, and other characteristics

  • Harvesting and coffee processing, including how coffee cherries move from the farm to a finished green coffee

  • Fermentation—what it means in coffee production and how different fermentation techniques can influence flavor

  • Processing methods, including washed, honey, natural, candied natural, co-fermented, and other experimental processes

  • The differences between processing variations such as yellow, red, and black honey

  • Coffee varieties and cultivars and how genetics, growing conditions, and processing work together to create different profiles

  • Single and multi-stage processing techniques and why producers may use more than one method during processing

  • How to recognize different flavor profiles, aromas, textures, and nuances in coffee

  • Why particular coffees may perform differently as espresso, filter coffee, immersion brewing, or other preparation methods

The Coffees

The coffees featured in each cupping rotate throughout the year based on what we currently have available.

Because our coffee lineup continually changes, every cupping is a little different. We intentionally select a diverse group of coffees so you can compare differences in origin, variety, fermentation, processing method, and flavor profile side by side.

The goal isn't simply to decide which coffee you like best. It's to begin understanding why coffees taste different and how choices made at the farm, mill, roastery, and brew bar ultimately shape the cup.

How Cupping Works

Coffee is tasted differently during a professional cupping than it would be from your everyday mug.

You'll smell and evaluate the coffees at several stages before tasting them by slurping small amounts from a cupping spoon. Slurping helps distribute the coffee across the palate and allows you to evaluate its aroma and flavor more effectively.

You will taste a number of coffees, but you do not need to drink a large amount of coffee during the experience. Spit cups are also available for anyone who would prefer to taste without consuming each sample.

We'll guide you through the entire process, so no previous cupping experience is required.
