About the Farm

Mondul Coffee Estate is located in the fertile highlands surrounding Mount Meru in northern Tanzania, where volcanic soils, high elevations, and favorable growing conditions provide an exceptional environment for cultivating specialty Arabica coffee.

Established in 1931, Mondul has developed a longstanding reputation for producing high-quality specialty coffee through a combination of traditional agricultural practices and modern processing techniques. The estate supports a community of more than 100 permanent employees who live and work on the property, contributing generations of experience and expertise to its coffee production.

With nearly a century of cultivation experience, Mondul continues to emphasize careful harvesting, precise processing, and consistent quality, producing coffees that reflect the distinctive growing conditions of Tanzania's northern highlands.

About the Bean

This fully washed AA lot from Mondul Coffee Estate highlights the clarity, sweetness, and vibrant acidity characteristic of carefully processed Tanzanian coffee. Ripe cherries are selectively harvested and pulped within eight hours of picking before undergoing a controlled fermentation lasting 24 to 36 hours, with an intermediate wash performed after approximately 12 to 18 hours.

Following fermentation, the coffee is thoroughly washed and slowly dried on raised beds for approximately 21 days. Once the parchment reaches a moisture content of approximately 10.5%, it is conditioned before being transported to the dry mill for hulling and grading.

In the cup, bright notes of lemon are balanced by the delicate sweetness of honey and the soft, rounded character of ripe apricot. An above-average body complements the coffee's lively citrus acidity, creating a clean, balanced profile with a refreshing finish that showcases the precision of Mondul's washed processing methods.
