About the Farm
Coffee in Kenya is produced by both smallholders and larger estates, many of which are organized into Farmer Cooperative Societies (FCS). These cooperatives oversee traceability and quality control, ensuring that each contribution meets Kenya’s famously high standards. In the Mt. Kenya region, fertile volcanic soils and elevations of 1,500 to 1,700 meters create ideal conditions for growing rich and complex coffees. The main varieties SL28 and SL34 are celebrated for their cup quality, while Ruiru11 contributes resilience without sacrificing flavor.
About the Bean
This is a single origin blend, which means all of the coffee comes from one country and one growing region, in this case Mt. Kenya. Instead of mixing coffees from different origins, it combines contributions from multiple farmers and cooperatives within the same area. This preserves the character of Kenyan coffee while creating a consistent, balanced profile.
The washed process adds clarity, but the true character of this coffee is its depth. Rather than presenting strong fruit notes, this lot leans toward a rich and robust cup with very mild fruit undertones. Expect a medium body with bold, full flavors supported by gentle hints of stone fruit and citrus. It is an excellent choice for those who enjoy a stronger, more assertive coffee that still carries subtle layers of sweetness and complexity.
