About the Farm

Pitalito, located in the Huila region of southern Colombia, is a hub for specialty coffee production. Though technically a municipality, the name is synonymous with quality coffee grown by hundreds of smallholder farmers across the surrounding hills. These family-owned farms, often passed down through generations, sit between 1,670 and 1,950 meters above sea level, where cool nights and volcanic soil provide ideal growing conditions. Farmers in this region rely on meticulous cultivation and traditional methods, with harvests split between the main season from September to December and a smaller mitaca crop in April through June. Together, their efforts help cement Huila’s reputation as one of the most celebrated coffee regions in Colombia.

About the Bean

This lot represents the best of Colombian Supremo, a designation given to larger beans (screen size 17) with few to no defects. The coffee is washed, meaning cherries are carefully sorted, depulped, fermented, and then dried to highlight the region’s terroir. The varieties here — Caturra, Castillo, and Typica — bring a mix of structure, sweetness, and complexity. In the cup, you’ll find layers of dark chocolate and caramel balanced with cherry and vanilla brightness, and a roasted almond finish that lingers pleasantly. With its heavy body and medium acidity, Pitalito Smallholders Coffee is both comforting and complex, showcasing why Huila remains a favorite among coffee lovers worldwide.
