About the Farm
GDM (Grivas D. Mwangoka) Farm is a rarity in Tanzania: a large, family-owned estate in a country where most coffee comes from cooperatives and smallholders. The Grivas family has cared for this land for over 20 years, with Richard Grivas now leading the second generation. Nestled in the southern highlands near the historic Mbozi meteorite, the 400-hectare farm sits at nearly 2,000 meters above sea level and provides work for more than 200 seasonal laborers each harvest. Beyond the estate’s borders, GDM also supports neighboring smallholders with access to resources and markets, strengthening the local coffee community. Their approach blends engineering precision with community focus, ensuring each lot is crafted with care and consistency.
About the Bean
This natural lot showcases Tanzania in a vibrant new light. Ripe cherries are hand-picked, meticulously sorted, and laid out on raised drying beds where they rest for up to three weeks in the highland sun. Drying coffee in the whole fruit concentrates sweetness and brings out lively flavors of strawberry, citrus, and tropical fruit, with a cane-sugar sweetness and tea-like finish. The farm grows classic Bourbon alongside newer Compact hybrids, combining heirloom flavor with resilience in the field. The result is a coffee that’s bright, fruit-forward, and unmistakably Tanzanian — proof of what happens when innovation meets tradition on a single estate.
